Without paying for items mobs will become much stronger than you can as a free player so you will reach "walls" where you can't go on because you can't beat the monsters. This is a hard cap, while the combat raiting requirement is a softer cap, the same way the game is designed to give you less experience that you need to keep playing the main storyline progression smooth it also applies to drops and mob level. Paying for enhanced battlepass will make your experience gains much better. Playing completely free, you will gain less experience during normal gameplay than you need to keep going, so you will need to start griding before reaching the end of the main storyline. My second, not so much.Īt around level 30 you will eneter zones that need a certain level to activate and you need to enter those zone to continue the main quest. For all of Diablo 3's monsters, they might as well all be the same for how you actually wind up fighting them, aside from running away from the occasional freeze or explosion. This somewhat pulls the combat back to Diablo 1 or 2, which at the very least sometimes have monsters that ask you to respond to them, unlike the vast majority of Diablo 3's monsters (and how they interact with the difficulty system). More importantly, however, is that so far Diablo Immortal's combat is more about reacting to the monsters in front of you instead of just picking a few skills that look pretty or match the legendary you just picked up and repeating the same action on loop every 10-20 seconds. In fact, it probably solves some of my main gripes with Diablo 3's combat due to the interaction with legendaries and how absolutely drastically they can change how a class plays (and in most cases that winds up being mostly about watching short cooldowns with stupid short grace windows to reactivate before you die or your damage drops dramatically).ĭiablo Immortal has some weird hybrid of a priority-based rotation.
There's no spell casting resource, just a main attack and a few (3-4) short cooldown spells.
So far it is a better Diablo 3, even if the combat is somewhat simplified for phone use. I'm going to totally ignore the microtransactions for as long as I can (probably forever, if the review at Ars Technica is anything to go by). It's free, it's gonna be on PC, and all signs point to it being basically an improved Diablo 3. interesting, at least? I told myself I'd give it a try. I played on my phone for maybe 30 minutes.
